Jayanta Baruah

Chairman, Editor, Pratidin Media Network

The Editor of Asomiya Pratidin & Chairman Pratidin Media Networks, Shri Jayanta Baruah proudly introduces himself as the great-grandson of the legendary Hem Chandra Baruah, the writer of the first Assamese dictionary – Hemkosh, published in the year 1919. The 15th edition of Hemkosh was published in 2012.
Jayanta Baruah was born in Shivsagar district and completed his Bachelor’s in Science in 1981 from Gauhati University. After a brief political career, Baruah turned to print media following the footprints of his ancestors. With his debt to the language and literature of the community, he initiated Sadin – a weekly Assamese newspaper in 1989, at the age of 28 years. He believes media plays a crucial role in the development of any state or community and that’s why he stands obligated to social and moral obligations towards the Assamese community.

With his relentless contributions towards the cultural and linguistic upliftment of the language, the state has come up with a full-fledged media establishment in the Assamese language, which has not only crossed the state and the region’s boundary but shined at national as well as international platforms through enormous awards and accolades.

Shree Baruah is the proud owner of Pratidin Media Networks which comprises a bouquet full of media brands that have been established under his great leadership, like-

  • Sadin: Weekly newspaper established in the year 1989.
  • Asomiya Pratidin: Assam’s highest circulated newspaper established in 2008.
  • Nandini: A women-friendly magazine established in 2000 to cater to women subscribers.
