With the outburst of success from Sadin, in 1995, Jayanta Baruah started the daily vernacular, Asomiya Pratidin. Since its inception, the Daily has become the voice of the regional people of Assam. The publication was once led by martyred radical journalist and human rights activist Late Parag Kumar Das, who served as the executive editor of the newspaper.
Soon the vernacular daily started a new stream called “Citizen’s Journalism” by putting the issues the citizens face upfront.
Asomiya Pratidin is the only publication from the North East with four editions, simultaneously printed from Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Bongaigaon and North Lakhimpur.
In 2008, Asomiya Pratidin entered the Limca Book of Records as one of the most widely circulated regional language newspapers in Assam.
- Asomiya Pratidin is the only Assamese newspaper that has four editions across Assam. They are published simultaneously from Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Bongaigaon and North Lakhimpur.
- Immense popularity in Assam and Northeast led to the inclusion of Asomiya Pratidin in the LIMCA BOOK OF RECORDS – 2008, as one of the most highly circulated newspapers of North Eastern States. We were the only newspaper house of the state to have appeared along with the likes of Dainik Bhaskar and Ananda Bazar Patrika.
- Shri Jayanta Baruah and Asomiya Pratidin were awarded by then Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, in 2008 for their outstanding contribution to vernacular daily.
