Beyond media ventures, Pratidin Media Network actively engages in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, including educational initiatives, awards and scholarships, and the promotion of Braille literature for the visually impaired. Our commitment to social welfare extends to every facet of our operations, ensuring that we contribute meaningfully to the communities we serve.
In 1992, the Oja Hemchandra Baruah Vidya Mandir was established in Guwahati by Shri Jayanta Baruah honouring his grandfather Shree Hemchandra Baruah who is fondly remembered as “Bhaxar Oja” or teacher of language. The Assamese medium school is build to provide free education to the underprivileged.
Since 2002, he is financially operating Oja Hemchandra Baruah Vidya Mandir. All expenses related to infrastructure, establishment, advancement, books, salary to the teaching staff, Computer Center and daily expenses are borne by Shri Jayanta Baruah, in interest of imparting NO COST EDUCATION to EWS and underprivileged children.
Until 2023, 3150 EWS students have successfully completed their education till class 10, from Oja Hemchandra Baruah Vidya Mandir.
First Assamese dictionary (etymological) published in 1919 by Hem Chandra Baruah to preserve and revive the Assamese language. It is still considered the standard reference of the Assamese orthography.
Hemkosh stands as the quintessential Assamese dictionary, with its latest edition boasting over 1200 pages and encompassing more than 1 lakh words. Revered as the Gita, Bible, and Quran of the Assamese language and community, Hemkosh remains an invaluable resource for scholars, linguists, and language enthusiasts alike.
In September 2022, Jayanta Baruah unveiled the braille version of the first etymological Assamese dictionary Hemkosh for the visually impaired people. He was praised for his efforts by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, who mentioned Baruah in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ podcast. The Braille dictionary is set to be distributed free of cost to the colleges and university libraries of India.
Hemkosh’s Braille dictionary has found its place at the Prime Minister’s Office and the National Library, Kolkata, and is also recognised as the ‘Largest Braille dictionary’ by the Guinness Books of World Records with 10,000 pages.
In 2018, Jayanta Baruah conceptualised a biennial award named after his late grandfather Hemchandra Baruah Literary Awards which is presented to people who have excelled in the field of Language and Literature. A financial assistance of Rs 2 lakhs is also awarded to the winner.
